Tabs: More than pretty colors

The tabs in SmartGo organize your Go activities as well as your games. For example, there's a tab for the professional game collection, a tab for problem solving, and a tab for connecting to IGS. You can customize each tab with the tools and settings you prefer for that activity. Right-click on the tab to color-code it with your favorite color.

The games in a tab can be in one or many files. Either way, you can easily sort, filter, and search all the games in a tab. Add your own tabs for special collections of games, like your tournament games, for example.

Play against SmartGo

SmartGo is a strong Go-playing program. There are some programs that are still slightly stronger than SmartGo, but SmartGo is more fun:

  • Animated lookahead: SmartGo shows you the sequence of moves it anticipates as it's thinking ahead.
  • Position analysis: SmartGo uses subtle markings to indicates black and white territory as well as weak groups and stones that can be captured.
  • Score graph: SmartGo shows a graph of the current score.

  • Professional moves: As long as you play professional moves, SmartGo will too!
  • Time limit: Tell SmartGo how fast you want to play, and SmartGo will stay within that time limit. (SmartGo plays better when you give it more time.)

Play against other programs

You can install other playing engines that use the Go Text Protocol, such as the strong (and free) GNU Go engine.
